Shiny Hunting

Shiny Hunting refers to the act of attempting to hatch a specific Shiny Pokémon by hatching the same type of Egg repeatedly. The unaffected chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon is extremely small and therefore Shiny hunting needs a lot of luck. It is possible to raise the chance to make a systematic Shiny hunt possible, with a guide with a how to.

Site related Boost

These factors apply for all users without exception. These boosts are the Pokémon of the Day and Sei's Bonus Counter. The PotD selects a random Pokémon that has a 10% improved chance of hatching Shiny for the day. Sei's Bonus Counter gets activated after a certain amount of Shiny Pokémon are hatched (2,777) and boosts the chance of hatching a Shiny overall for one day.

While Sei's counter is influenced by the activity of the users, the PotD is completely random.

User related Boost

A user has the possibility to raise their own chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon. These boosts stack with the site related boosts and with each other.

Shiny Charms

Shiny Charms double the chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon. There are two different Charms that may be used for Shiny hunting, both can be active at the same time. The usual Shiny Charm can be purchased for 150, it boosts the chance for 24 hours after activation. If the user does not possess a Shiny Charm Box then the Shiny Charm will disappear after using it. When in possession of a Shiny Charm Box the Shiny Charm will turn into a Dead Shiny Charm after being used. Dead Shiny Charms can be recharged using Gold Poké. Recharging one Shiny Charm costs 100 and takes 5 days, while recharging multiple Shiny Charms at once lowers cost (per charm) and duration down to 24 hours.

It is possible to recharge more than 5 Shiny Charms at once, every further Shiny Charm costs additional 20 and does not lower the duration time any further.

An Übercharm also doubles the chance of a Shiny Pokémon, but lasts for 28 days instead of the 24 hours of a Shiny Charm. In return it costs 200 and disappears completely after the effect wears off. It is also possible to buy an Übercharm for another user using the Übercharm page, this gives a Cookie as a reward. Buying 5 Übercharms for others gives extra Cookies.

PokéRadar

A PokéRadar can be purchased for ₢750,000 on the Shiny Hunt page. It doesn't give much of a bonus by itself as it only allows a chain of 1 Egg, which boosts the chance of a Shiny Pokémon by 12%. Together with a Hypermode the PokéRadar allows the user to chain a species of Eggs that boosts the chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon to up to 3,996%. Alternatively, the PokéRadar+ (available for ₢250,000) lets you chain up to 35 eggs, meaning the user will have about 1/6 of the chance as you would at a chain of 40.

Chain

A chain compromises of a set of consecutive Eggs hatched of the same species. A chain is only possible with an active Hypermode or after having bought the Pokéradar+ and while owning a PokéRadar, otherwise chaining is impossible. Hatching the same Egg raises the chance of getting a Shiny Pokémon, the boost depends on how many eggs were hatched. The maximum boost is reached after hatching 40 Eggs of the same species, which boosts the chance of a Shiny Pokémon by 3,996%. A Shiny Pokémon that is hatched in a chain will have an entry in their Timeline that can look like this:

The numbers means that this Shiny Pokémon was the 4^th one to hatch in this chain, it hatched at Egg 86. Active boosts when hatching were the Sei Bonus Counter, a Shiny Charm and an Übercharm. The Timeline only lists boost that raise the chance of hatching a Shiny Pokémon, boost that made it easier to hatch due to more Interaction gain, like the PokéRus, are not listed.

Breaking a Chain

Breaking a chain means losing all progress made in the chain. This is usually done when starting a new Shiny Hunt. The chain will either fail completely or start at 1 Egg again, depending whether the user still owns the PokéRadar or not. The following causes a chain to break:

• Hatching a different Egg than the species that is currently being chained, including Legendary Pokémon
• Hatching an Egg while not possessing a PokéRadar

To avoid breaking the chain, an Egg Pass can be purchased. It allows the user to hatch one Egg without breaking the chain.

Special Eggs

Some Pokémon have different formes or appearances, which influences Shiny Hunting. If a Pokémon has more than one forme, then each forme has a different EggDex and therefore break the chain if different ones are hatched together. A different appearance does not give another EggDex and therefore count as one species even though they look different from one another. The only way to identify whether a Pokémon has a different forme or only a different appearance is by looking at the PokéDex, different formes are always listed there.

• Deerling: changes its appearance with the season
• Flabébé: hatches with a random colour
• Spinda: hatches with a random pattern of spots
• Oricorio: hatches in a random Style
• Pumpkaboo: hatches in different sizes depending on how many hours the egg took to hatch (<2 hours = small, 2-3 hours = average, 3-4 hours = large, and >4 hours = super size). Note that, at the time of this edit, the counter starts when the egg is created, not when you adopt it.
• Seasonal Turtwig: changes its appearance with the season

Unown is the only Pokémon with different formes that have the same Egg sprite and all hatch from an Egg, there is currently no way to distinguish the different Unown formes from each other.
