Category talk:Pokémon (Images)

Seeing as User:Maff is uploading large quantities of new images, I'd like to suggest some new categories to keep everything tidy.

I propose that the current Category:Pokémon (Images) become the parent category for all Pokémon image categories, but should have no actual images inside of it. It would have other categories like Category:Exclusive Mega Pokémon (Images) and Category:Custom Sprite Pokémon (Images).

So here is the master list:

Link Description Criterial
Category:Pokémon (Images) Parent category All Pokémon image categories
Category:Shiny Pokémon (Images) Parent category for shiny Pokémon images All shiny Pokémon images and subcategories
↳↳ Category:Generation X Shiny Pokémon (Images) Subcategory of both Category:Pokémon (Images) and Category:Shiny Pokémon (Images) All shiny Pokémon from X generation
↳↳ Category:Shiny Mega Pokémon (Images) Subcategory of both Category:Pokémon (Images) and Category:Shiny Pokémon (Images) All shiny Mega Pokémon

And repeat for each SAM type with subcategories for each Generation (+ PFQ Exclusives) and Mega Pokémon. Cool, any feedback?

I apologize for not categorizing them up to this point; I was planning to categorize them later into Category:Pokémon (Images), as I was working with a limited time frame earlier. It won't happen again.
The proposed system looks pretty straightforward to me, though I do want to clarify something so that, if this is implemented, I don't screw up. If I'm adding categories to an image (let's say File:Pokémon_Shiny_Bulbasaur.png for simplicity), it would be categorized both in Category:Shiny Pokémon (Images) and Category:Generation 1 Shiny Pokémon (Images), correct?
Also, would it be better to do Category:Region Shiny Pokémon (Images) instead of Generation? Simply because there may be confusion between the generation in which a Pokémon has been added and the region that the Pokémon are in, in the PFQ dex.

The category system is good, but Pokémon should be grouped by region (as suggested by Maff), because PFQ uses different Pokédex ordering.
I also can handle uploading and applying categories automatically, using a bot (this was permitted by Niet).
To Maff: In your example, the file will appear only in Category:Generation 1 Shiny Pokémon (Images). However, the category itself will appear in the Category:Shiny Pokémon (Images) as a subcategory.

Dumb question; should I begin categorizing the images I've already uploaded, or is that something your bot can/will do? Maff (talk) 19:49, 12 December 2015 (GMT)
I will do it using my bot. However, pleade don't remove Category:Pokémon (Images) from files yet. It will be cleaned when all images from that category will be properly categorised. // dpkg95 a.k.a. IOSTREAM // 21:48, 12 December 2015 (GMT)
I was pretty inactive until mid of January, so excuse me if I'm confused for a stupid reason. But is there a reason there are still Special Pokémon images in this category? I understand some of the normal sprites that don't fit into the currently existing categories, but what about the Gen 1 Starter sprites that belong in the categories? I'm asking because Dpkg95 said in the reply that the Pokémon category shouldn't be removed until everything is properly categorised, so I'm wondering if there's a reason for it.
Otherwise than that, great job! --Uzumi (talk) 19:02, 2 February 2016 (GMT)
Oops, I completely forgot about that. All files were removed from this category. I also created a new category for regular sprites. // dpkg95 a.k.a. IOSTREAM // 07:49, 4 February 2016 (GMT)
